Osun Governor Adeleke Directs Ministry of Education to Bring Back Digital Learning Tablets in Schools

Osun Governor, Ademola Adeleke has directed the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation to look into the re-introduction of digital learning tablets in schools. This move is aimed at reviving the e-learning initiative that was pioneered by the Rauf Aregbesola administration in Osun schools.

During the tenure of Rauf Aregbesola, tablets and computers were introduced to aid learning and teaching in Osun schools, and this program benefited over 300,000 students. The introduction of digital learning tools increased the pass rate of Osun senior secondary pupils by over 193 per cent, while saving the state over N8.4 billion in annual textbook expenses.

Unfortunately, the programme suffered a setback when former governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration withdrew the gadget from pupils. This withdrawal led to a decline in the performance of pupils and West African Examinations Council, WAEC’s ranking.

Osun Governor Adeleke, who was presenting instructional materials to pupils as part of activities to mark his 100 days in office, decried the poor performance of pupils and WAEC’s ranking. He faulted the failure of tech innovation in schools for this decline and has therefore directed the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation to look into the re-introduction of digital learning tablets in schools.

The move to reintroduce digital learning tablets in Osun schools is a welcome development as it has been proven to be an effective way of enhancing learning outcomes. With the continued use of digital tools in schools, Osun State can look forward to improved academic performance and better ranking in national exams. It is hoped that the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation will quickly take action to ensure that the re-introduction of digital learning tablets in schools is carried out smoothly and effectively.
