Enugu: Senator Chimaroke Nnamani Resigns from PDP After Election Defeat and Anti-Party Allegations, Pledges Support for Tinubu

Former Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, who was representing Enugu East senatorial district, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This comes just a few hours after he lost his seat to Kelvin Chukwu, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the recently concluded senatorial election.

It is worth noting that prior to the election, Nnamani had been involved in a running battle with the PDP. The senator was very vocal about his support for Bola Tinubu, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential election. Unfortunately, this did not sit well with the PDP, and as a result, the senator was expelled from the party for alleged “anti-party” activities.

In a statement released on Monday, the senator stated that consultations with his constituents and associates informed his decision to quit the PDP. He added that he has moved on and hopes that his “modest contributions” to the development of his constituency would be the building blocks for his successor.

Nnamani further reiterated his support for Tinubu, saying that he “will continue to partner with him”. According to the outgoing senator, a Tinubu administration will promote good governance, rule of law, and human rights for the interest of all Nigerians.

In his statement, the former Enugu state senator expressed his gratitude to Nigerians, especially the Ebeano political family, and urged them to remain steadfast in the years ahead. While it remains to be seen what the future holds for Nnamani politically, his resignation from the PDP has certainly sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Nigeria.
