President Tinubu Dissolves Boards of All Federal Government Bodies, Except Those Protected by Constitutional Mandate

In a decisive move that is bound to reverberate through the corridors of the Nigerian federal structure, President Tinubu has decreed the dissolution of the boards of all Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies. The announcement was made via an official statement disseminated by the Press & Public Relations Department, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on the evening of Monday, June 19, 2023, marking another pivotal moment in President Tinubu’s administration.

The decree stipulates that the leadership of all Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies will be disbanded, hence underlining President Tinubu’s resolve to restructure these institutions. It is a clear demonstration of the Constitutional Powers vested in his office and an affirmative response to the public interest.

The exception to this sweeping change is specified in the statement: Boards, Commissions, and Councils listed in the Third Schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, remain unaffected by this dissolution.

To manage the affairs in the interim and ensure the smooth functioning of these entities, the Chief Executive Officers of the Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies are advised to forward any matters necessitating the attention of their Boards directly to President Tinubu. This communication should occur through the Permanent Secretaries of their respective supervisory Ministries and Offices.

The Permanent Secretaries also hold a key role in this transition. They are directed to filter all such correspondences through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation before reaching the President. The directive took effect from Friday, June 16, 2023, thereby instructing all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure full compliance with the provision of this directive.

As President Tinubu navigates his path in the high office, this decision marks a significant development in his tenure. For the affected Agencies, the Permanent Secretaries of their respective Ministries and Offices are mandated to inform their Chief Executive Officers for immediate compliance. The statement was signed by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, accentuating the gravity of this development.

As we closely follow the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this decision, with its far-reaching implications, undoubtedly marks a new chapter in his administration’s narrative. This move will be closely watched by stakeholders across all sectors as they navigate this new structure in Nigeria’s federal governance.
