x-Cape Town Politician Loyiso Nkohla Fatally Shot, Three Wounded in Attack

In a tragic incident that occurred on Monday, former politician Loyiso Nkohla was shot and killed in Cape Town. He gained notoriety for his involvement in a 2013 Ses’khona Peoples Rights Movement protest centered on sanitation issues, during which he and Andile Lili earned the nickname “poo throwers.” Nkohla was affiliated with the ANC and the Land Party at various points in his career and also had brief stints with the Patriotic Alliance and the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The news of his death was confirmed by members of the ANC and the Land Party, organizations to which he had belonged. Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, a police spokesperson, stated that the circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently being investigated. He reported that officers from the Nyanga police department arrived at Philippi Railway Station, where Nkohla was said to have been addressing a meeting, and discovered the injured body of a 40-year-old male. In addition to Nkohla’s death, three other individuals sustained injuries in the shooting at Cape Town.

Swartbooi provided further details, explaining that the victim was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. He also noted that two women and one man who were injured in the incident were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment using private transportation. It has been reported by News24 that another former ANC councilor was among the wounded. The group had apparently gathered to address a group of people residing alongside the railway lines at the station when they came under attack.

According to Swartbooi, the perpetrator fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended. The motive for the attack remains unclear at this time, and the Nyanga police are investigating the case as a murder and attempted murder. Swartbooi urged anyone with information that could aid the investigation to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
