Man and woman die in horror crash as 12-year-old girl and boy, 16, suffer serious injuries.

A man and woman have died following a horror car crash which also left two children seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, Haydock, St Helens, at about 7:20pm last night to reports of a smash involving two vehicles.

Merseyside Police officers were called and firefighters arrived and cut passengers from both cars.

One driver, a 37-year-old man, and his front seat passenger, a 37-year-old woman, died following the incident, the reports.

They have been formally identified and next of kin have been informed but the names have not yet been publicly released.

Two children, a boy aged 16 and a girl aged 12 who were rear passengers in the silver VW Golf, are currently receiving treatment in hospital. Their condition is described as serious.

A third male, aged 29, was also injured and his condition is described as critical.

The 27-year old male driver of a red Vauxhall Corsa who was also involved in this incident, is receiving treatment for minor injuries in hospital.
