Girl, 15, dies after suffering devastating injuries in horror bus stop crash that left three hurt.

A 15-year-old girl who was severely injured in a horror bus stop smash has died.

The teen, named locally as  Katelyn Dawson, was fatally wounded in the crash this morning that left three others hurt.

She was flown to hospital by air ambulance after a BMW car mounted the pavement in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

The youngster was a Year 11 pupil at Shelley College and was waiting for her bus to go to school when tragedy struck at about 8.15am.

Tributes began appearing on social media at about 8pm as the news spread through the school.

Three other victims were caught up in the crash, a girl aged 17, a woman aged 47 and the driver of the BMW, aged 51, they reported.

The tragedy occurred after a grey BMW 5 Series that was travelling away from Huddersfield left the road and smashed into the bus shelter where people were waiting.

The road where the car struck remained closed for much of the day.

Witnesses described seeing ‘absolute carnage’ and said it ‘looked like something out of a film’ as they attended the scene.

Nurses from a care home heard the smash and rushed out to assist paramedics.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and who may have seen the grey BMW before the collision, or who witnessed the collision itself, to come forward.

The impact of the crash was so bad that one of the wheels from the BMW came off.

The bus shelter was also knocked over and debris was scattered across the road.

Witnesses at the scene said a school bus had just left the stop before the crash happened.

Another woman, who did not want to be named said: “Luckily I drove my daughter to school today, but that’s her usual stop to Shelley College.

“It just doesn’t bear thinking about what could have happened.”

By 3pm this afternoon the debris had been cleared, the car had been recovered and the road was back open.
