Kano State: Three Women Dead, 13 Injured as Commercial Bus Catches Fire

In a tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday, the Kano State Fire Service reported that three female passengers lost their lives while 13 other passengers were injured when a commercial bus caught fire. The Public Relations Officer for the service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed this report in a statement he issued to newsmen in Kano.

According to Abdullahi, the commercial vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XE 222 TRN, caught fire around the Government Technical College in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state. The incident took place while the bus, coming from Ajingi LGA to Kofar Wambai, erupted into fire.

Fortunately, fire personnel and officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps were able to put out the fire and rescue most of the victims. However, three women in the bus were burnt beyond recognition, and Abdullahi identified two of their names as Surayya Umar and Zeenai Babaji.

The remaining 13 victims sustained various degrees of injury and were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano State, for treatment. Fortunately, the driver, Muhammed Gali, 35, and his bus conductor Hassan Danladi, 30, were rescued without any injury and handed over to the police.

Abdullahi attributed the cause of the accident to a violation of the speeding limit and a burst rear tire. He implored motorists to drive with caution to avoid such occurrences in the future.

This incident is a sad reminder of the need for caution and safety when traveling, especially by road. It is important for all motorists to adhere to speed limits and properly maintain their vehicles to prevent accidents that could lead to loss of lives and property. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, and we pray for the quick recovery of the injured victims.
