Federal Government Declares May 1st a Public Holiday to Celebrate Workers' Day

In a recent statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Federal Government has officially declared Monday, May 1st, as a public holiday in honor of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration. Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, made this announcement on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who in turn declared the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government.

Aregbesola extended his congratulations to workers across the nation as they commemorate this important day, acknowledging the immense hard work, diligence, and sacrifice that they put forth. The Minister emphasized that the efforts of these workers have contributed significantly to the greatness of Nigeria and the respect that the country has earned on the global stage.

In his statement, Aregbesola highlighted the importance of dedication and commitment to one’s work, citing the dignity of labor and its crucial role in nation-building. He urged workers to continue embracing a culture of productivity, as it is productivity that ultimately leads to the provision of satisfactory goods and services, wealth creation, and both national and individual prosperity.

The Minister called upon workers to strive for excellence in their respective fields, aligning their efforts with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s drive to improve governance and ensure maximum benefits for all Nigerian citizens. Aregbesola assured Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to the security of life and property for both citizens and foreigners residing in the country, even as the current administration approaches its end.

Furthermore, Aregbesola commended the successes achieved by security agencies in their ongoing fight against criminal activities throughout Nigeria. He encouraged these agencies to remain steadfast in their efforts to deter criminals and protect the nation’s people. The Minister also called upon Nigerians to play an active role in the country’s security infrastructure by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to make use of the N-Alert Application, available on both Android and iOS platforms, to assist in these efforts.

In conclusion, the declaration of May 1st as a public holiday in recognition of Workers’ Day serves as a reminder of the significant contributions that workers make to the nation’s progress and prosperity. It is an opportunity to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and sacrifices while encouraging a continued commitment to productivity, security, and national development.
