Federal Government Declares April 21 and 24, 2023, as Public Holidays in Celebration of Eid al-Fitr

In a recent announcement, the Federal Government has declared Friday, April 21, and Monday, April 24, 2023, as public holidays in order to commemorate this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration. The statement, signed by Shuiab Belgore, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, conveyed the declaration made by the Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on behalf of the government.

Aregbesola extended his congratulations to all Muslims for successfully completing the holy month of Ramadan and called on the Muslim community to embrace and practice the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice, and good neighborliness, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him). He emphasized that the self-restraint, self-denial, sacrifice, and deep spiritual consciousness that accompanied the fasting period should not cease with the end of Ramadan but should be maintained and improved upon in order to become better people and true worshippers.

Furthermore, Aregbesola reassured the public of President Muhammadu Buhari’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful transition of government following the successful elections. He also stressed the government’s steadfast dedication to providing security for the lives and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.

In light of this, the Minister urged Nigerians to actively participate in the nation’s security architecture by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest law enforcement agencies. He highlighted that security is a responsibility that falls on everyone and encouraged citizens to utilize the N-Alert application to report any suspicious activities or persons.

This declaration of public holidays serves not only as a time for celebration and reflection but also as an opportunity for citizens to contribute to the nation’s security and stability while fostering the values of peace, tolerance, and unity.
