Ethiopia, FAO Maps out Ways to Face Climatic Change

Addis Abeba, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) The government of Ethiopia, in collaboration with the Subregional Office of the United Nations for Food and Agriculture (FAO) in Eastern Africa, evaluates today the right strategies to face the challenges of climate change.

In that direction, a workshop was held in this capital with the participation of leaders and members of civil societies of the countries concerned, with the objective to support the States in a proactive response to climate challenges.



Thus, among the main difficulties in the zone they identified the problems of soil degradation, soil fertility and the lack of access to inputs and adequate technologies.

‘It is necessary to have platforms of coordination and exchange of information, adoption of adequate practices, introduce policies and institutions leading to mobilize the necessary financial resources for a sustained actions contributing to Agenda 2030 of Sustainable Development Objectives’, referred David Phiri, FAO subregional coordinator.

According to the released reports, attendants agreed that important actions to be taken in the short term include the redaction and validation of a Plan of Implementation to allow a clear understanding of the targets, objectives, the modus operandi, as well as the work program and budget.

They also considered the need to reactivate the Platform of Agriculture Climate-Intelligent of Eastern Africa, established in 2014 with the aim to increase the sector’s productivity and revenues, adapt and develop the resilience to climate change and reduce the emission of hothouse effect gases.

Nigeria: You must not allow bloodshed – US Congressman writes Buhari
