British Airways discloses suspension of its flights to Iran from London

British Airways has revealed it will be suspending its flights to Tehran, Iran, as the route is no longer “commercially viable”.

The airline currently offers direct flights from London Heathrow, but these will be suspended in September.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed that the last outbound flight to Tehran will take off on September 22, and the last inbound flight from Tehran will take off the next day on September 23.

As for passengers who have already booked flights on the route and planned to travel, the airline confirmed that it is currently looking to alternative options and working with partner airlines so they can offer rebooking options.

However if there are no flights that work for passengers affected, the airline has said it will offer them a full refund, or the chance to travel before the suspension comes into effect.

British Airways had resumed the direct route from London to Tehran back in 2016, when sanctions on flights to Iran were relaxed

Until now the airline had been offering up to six flights a week, but it seems there has not been enough uptake from passengers.

Passengers who are looking for direct flights to Iran from the UK won’t have many alternative options; currently only IranAir offers direct flights.

However, there are a host of airlines which offer flights to Tehran with a stopover; Emirates, Air France, Qatar Airways and Lufthansa to name a few.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a $2.97 billion Precautionary and Liquidity Line (PLL) to help Morocco face unexpected economic setbacks.

The IMF said in a statement that the new PLL arrangement “will provide insurance against external shocks and support the authorities’ efforts to further strengthen the economy’s resilience and promote higher and more inclusive growth”.

The two-year credit line signed on Monday is the fourth of its kind between Morocco and the IMF.

“Morocco’s economic growth remains strong in 2018 and is expected to accelerate in the medium term, provided that external conditions improve,” the IMF said. However, the outlook remains vulnerable to adverse external risks, including increased geopolitical risks and the volatility of global financial markets, it added.
