Falana tells Buhari to Let courts determine what’s security threat.

A human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to let the courts decide what constitutes a threat to national security instead of allowing security agencies to disobey court judgments under the guise of national security.



Falana, who was a discussant at the 58th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja on Tuesday, said this while responding to a question posed by another senior advocate, Chief Mike Ozekhome.

Falana also agreed with Ozekhome that the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation must be separated from that of the Minister of Justice.

The senior advocate said he had invoked the Freedom of Information Act, demanding to know how the funds were being used but over a year after writing the letter, he had yet to receive a response.

Zimbabwe : post-election violence Chamisa faces arrest.

Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa is facing arrest over claims he incited violence which erupted after the July 31st presidential election.

According to the Zimbabwe Police, Chamisa is close to being arrested for inciting the violence that led to some deaths.



Armed soldiers were deployed on August 1 in the capital, Harare to suppress a protest against delays in announcing the presidential election results.

Six people were killed when opposition protesters clashed with soldiers shortly after the general elections.

The soldiers reportedly shot some protesters resulting in deaths that were condemned globally. the protesters were agitating over the election results claiming that their candidate, Nelson Chamisa had won instead.

However, the leadership of the Zimbabwe military has rejected claims its soldiers killed civilians during a post-election violence.

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa had set up a commission of inquiry to look into the country’s post-election killings.

The seven-member commission of inquiry was headed by former South African President, Kgalema Motlanthe.

The commission was given three months to look into the reasons behind the protests and the role of the military in the killings.

Governor Wike aspires 50-yrs development blueprint for Rivers

River State Governor Nyesom Wike has declared that the state government is determined to set out development blueprint for the rapid growth of the state for the next 50 years.



Wike made this declaration in Port Harcourt after receiving the final report from the River State Golden Jubilee committee, he also accepted the committee proposal to establish a technical group to develop a working document for the state.

in his words, he expressed his happiness to the honesty of the committee to execute their mandate during the celebrations in 2017.

Wike says, that he is satisfied with the quality of the work of the committee that produced the documentary for ‘Rivers at 50’. he praised them for putting account all sectors in rivers without omitting any aspect.

The chairman of the committee, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, lauds the outcome of the celebration stating that it was a landmark in the history of the state.

Chief Alabraba, thanked the State Governor for the available funds through the government grant and private donations leading to returning unspent funds allocated to them, he appreciated the Rivers people for participating actively in the events that marked 50th anniversary of the state.
