UN Mobilizes Representatives ahead of Constitutional Referendum Vote in Libya

The UN mission to Libya has promoted a new sense of optimism ahead of a House of Representatives session in the eastern city of Tobruk on Monday to vote on a constitutional referendum.



According to the mission, UN Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame accompanied by Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs in Libya Stephanie Williams have met with lawmaker Abdel Salam Nasiyeh.

It said Nasiyeh expressed optimism that the House of Representatives will endorse the referendum law.

The priority for Libya now is for the completion of the constitutional process, unification of institutions and the preparation for elections.

The UN mission’s statement said that the conferees “discussed economic reforms, improving service delivery to the Libyan people, and agreed that the current political and economic situation is unsustainable.”
