Kenyan woman faces trial after infecting Neighbor’s baby with HIV

A woman was on Tuesday charged in a Nakuru court with deliberately transmitting HIV to a nine-months-old baby belonging to her neighbor.



Susan Njeri, 27, who appeared before Principal Magistrate Joe Omido, was accused of breastfeeding the infant when she knew was HIV positive.

The charge sheet said Ms Njeri knowingly and wilfully breastfeed the infant and knew her action was likely to infect the baby with HIV.

Ms Njeri is accused of committing the offense on September 18 at in Njoro sub- county.

According to the prosecution the child’s mother had left the infant in the care of Ms Njeri, who is her neighbour and left for work.

But the complainant was not aware that Ms Njeri was carrying the HIV virus.

During the course of the day, the baby started crying and efforts by Ms Njeri to calm the baby were fruitless. She resorted to breastfeed the baby.

She was caught by neighbors who reported the matter to the police. She was arrested and taken to Njoro Police Station.

Uganda: Rakai District councilor apprehended for defiling 13-year-old girl

Police in Rakai District have arrested a councilor representing one of the Sub Counties to Rakai District council on allegations of defiling a 13-year-old girl.



According to the girl’s aunt, the girl who was a day scholar at Buyamba Senior Secondary School in Rakai District, did not return home on Friday last week and was discovered by police in one of the trading centres on Monday this week.
“We started looking for this girl on Friday evening and reported the matter to Police. We were so bothered until Police contacted us on Monday that they had got her in the trading centre,” the aunt said.

It is reported that the girl spent three days with the councilor in one of the lodges in the trading centre until Police found them on Monday.

The councilor has been on the education committee at Rakai District local council since 2016. 
“I can’t believe a leader whom our children could emulate is the one behaving this way. I pray authorities do their work without fear or favour so that we get the right judgment,” the girl’s father said.

Dr Herbert Kalema, a medical lab officer at Masaka referral hospital said the results from the tests confirmed that the girl had been defiled and was yet to release results of HIV tests as at the time of filing the report.

Mr Grace Mutono, the Kyotera District Police Commander confirmed the councilor’s arrest, saying they have already commenced investigating the matter.

Self declared Egyptian Terrorist arrested by Italy

An Egyptian man accused of supporting the Islamic State and planning to fight himself, saying he used social media chats to spread jihadist propaganda have been arrested by Italian Authorities.



Police said that another Egyptian was ordered expelled from Italy, the latest in the more than 300 suspected jihadist sympathizers kicked out as national security threats since 2015. A third Egyptian was being sought.

Police said the suspect arrested Wednesday was 22-year-old Issam Elsayed Elsayed Abouelayem Shalabi, identified as the group’s leader. He was accused of association with the aim of international terrorism and instigation of terrorist acts. Police said Shalabi, a onetime McDonald’s cleaner, used the Telegram app to share IS videos and a claim of responsibility for a July IS attack in Tajikistan that killed four western cyclists.
