Peak Milk Brand Apologizes To Christians for Insensitive Good Friday Advertisement

FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, the company behind the popular Peak Milk brand, has issued a public apology to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) following the outcry over their recent Good Friday advertisement. The company has acknowledged the sensitivity of the social media post and assured that it was never their intention to make light of the significance of the season or exploit the incomparable sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

In a letter addressed to the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, and dated April 10th, 2023, the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs for FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, Ore Famurewa, expressed sincere regret for the advertisement, stating that it has been removed from their social media platforms. Famurewa also reiterated the company’s commitment to its mission of nurturing Nigeria, while respecting all religious laws, tenets, and guidelines.

Peak milk brand has pledged to ensure that such an incident does not recur in the future. They have asked for forgiveness from the Christian community and promised to uphold the highest level of respect for all religious and cultural sensitivities.

In response to the advertisement, CAN has cautioned all companies and organizations to be mindful of the religious and cultural sensitivities of their customers when promoting their products. They emphasized that they would not tolerate any attempts to trivialize or disrespect their faith and mentioned considering severe sanctions against FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, including a potential boycott of their products by Christians.

The advertisement in question had been met with widespread public disapproval, with many describing it as “blasphemous.” CAN’s spokesperson, Daramola, stated that Good Friday is a solemn day for Christians worldwide, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ for the sins of humanity. As such, it is not a day to be exploited for commercial gain.

Daramola went on to express disappointment in FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc for taking advantage of their customers’ religious sentiments for profit, pointing out a similar incident in the past involving Sterling Bank Plc. CAN had condemned that advertisement as well and now reiterates the importance of respecting religious and cultural sensitivities in marketing and promotional activities.

In conclusion, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc has issued an apology to the Christian community and withdrawn the controversial advertisement. The Christian Association of Nigeria urges all companies and organizations to exercise caution and respect for the diverse religious and cultural sensitivities of their customers when promoting their products.

Can we stop being hypocrites. So we suddenly are offended by Peak Milk’s attempt to tap into the essence of the season. Rather than appreciate the creativity we are more interested in the perceived insults. The religion card has never helped anyone. Politics and religion keep us distracted from the real issues at hand.
