This development has sparked reactions on social media, with Twitter users questioning the authenticity of Olumide Oworu’s candidacy.

Nigeria Election: Desmond Elliot's Opponent, Olumide Oworu, Missing From Ballot in Surulere Constituency I Election

One Twitter user, @StFrankingKezy, took to the platform to express their surprise, stating that “This guy is not even a candidate of LP in the forthcoming Gov & HoA elections oooooo because his name is not even on the INEC list. Wonders shall never end. Who started the narrative?” This tweet has since gone viral, with many Nigerians expressing their shock and disbelief at the situation.

According to reports, the candidates were enmeshed in legal cases that were not resolved until the build-up to the elections. It is unclear if Olumide Oworu’s legal challenges were the reason he was not on the ballot for the Labour Party. However, this development has raised questions about the LP’s internal processes and the legitimacy of their candidates.

The final collation of results showed that Elliot came out on top with 17,877 votes, while the candidate of the Labour Party, Adebayo Bode, came second with 7,822 votes. This result has further cemented Elliot’s position as the representative of Surulere Constituency I in the State Assembly.

The situation in Surulere Constituency I highlights the importance of due diligence in candidate selection and the need for transparency in the electoral process. It is important for political parties to ensure that their candidates meet all the necessary requirements and are properly vetted before presenting them for elections. This will help to prevent situations where candidates are disqualified or their legitimacy is questioned.

In conclusion, the absence of Olumide Oworu from the ballot in the Surulere Constituency I State Assembly election has raised questions about the Labour Party’s candidate selection process. It is important for political parties to conduct proper due diligence on their candidates to avoid similar situations in the future. As Nigerians, we must continue to demand transparency and accountability in our Nigeria election process to ensure that the will of the people prevails.
