Political Thugs Threaten Lagosians In Fadeyi: 'Stay Indoors if You Won't Vote APC

Disturbing videos emerged on social media of political thugs threatening residents of Lagos State, Nigeria, to stay indoors if they refuse to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates vying for various public offices in the ongoing gubernatorial and state assembly elections.

In one of the videos, a large group of thugs gathered in the Fadeyi area of Lagos, chanting and making threats to anyone who refused to vote for the APC. The video captures the chilling chant of the thugs, “If you won’t vote for APC, don’t come outside.”

The sight of these thugs instills fear in the hearts of many Lagosian, as they try to exercise their civic duty to vote for their preferred candidates. It is highly distressing that in a democratic society like Nigeria, citizens have to worry about their safety and security during an election.

The current governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the APC, faces strong competition from Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It is important to note that voter intimidation and violence have no place in a democratic society. The authorities should take swift action to investigate these videos and bring those responsible to justice.

Moreover, political parties and their leaders should refrain from engaging in any form of violence, intimidation or coercion during election campaigns. Instead, they should focus on presenting their manifestos and winning the trust and support of the people through peaceful means.

In conclusion, as the people of Lagos State go to the polls to elect their leaders, it is important that they do so without fear or intimidation. The security agencies must provide adequate protection to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process, while political leaders must play their part in promoting peaceful conduct before, during and after the elections.
