Buhari Urges Electorate to Collect Money but Vote for Their Preferred Candidates

On Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari exercised his democratic right to vote at polling unit 003 in Sarkin Yara A, Daura, Katsina State. After casting his ballot, the president addressed newsmen in both English and Hausa languages, urging the electorate to vote for their preferred candidates, even if politicians tried to offer them money.

President Buhari emphasized that his administration has been advocating against vote-buying and monetization of politics. He called on politicians to desist from such acts and urged the electorate to stand firm in their convictions. He also advised the people that if politicians still offered them money, they should collect it but vote for their preferred candidates.

The president expressed his gratitude to the electorate for trusting the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections where the party’s candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu, emerged victorious. He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a free and fair election.

It is noteworthy that during the previous election, President Buhari openly displayed his ballot paper after casting his vote. However, this time, he did not do so. Despite this, the president’s message was clear: vote for your preferred candidates, and do not succumb to monetary temptations.

In conclusion, President Buhari’s call to the electorate to vote for their preferred candidates, even if politicians tried to offer them money, is a reminder of the importance of free and fair elections. His administration’s stance against vote-buying and monetization of politics is commendable, and all stakeholders must work towards achieving this goal. The president’s message is a call to action for politicians, the electorate, and INEC to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.
