Bodies of Two Victims Recovered in Bayelsa State Boat Mishap, One Still Missing

Tragedy struck on Thursday along the Yenagoa-Brass waterways in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, as a local passenger boat capsized, leading to the loss of lives and property. According to reports, the boat was fully loaded with passengers and goods worth millions of naira, en route to Okpoama on the Atlantic coast, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Following the capsizing of the boat, two bodies were recovered on Friday afternoon. The recovered bodies were identified as one Mrs. B. Romeo and Ms. Ayebatorudigiyo Amakiri. However, one of the deckhands, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, is still missing.

The ill-fated local boat, MV Tari, which is used in conveying passengers and goods, was navigating through the winding waterways when it capsized near Okoroma in Nembe, at a sharp bend. Witnesses recounted that the incident occurred around 1:30 pm and that the boat was fully loaded with passengers and goods at the time of the accident.

The recovery of the two bodies is a devastating blow to their families and the community at large, as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. The search for the missing deckhand is still ongoing, and rescue teams in Bayelsa State are working tirelessly to locate and bring him to safety.

It is crucial to emphasize the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and regulations when traveling by boat or any other means of transportation. Authorities and relevant stakeholders must take proactive measures to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on the waterways, including regular maintenance of boats, proper loading, and adequate safety equipment.

In conclusion, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims of the tragic boat accident. We urge the relevant authorities to expedite the search for the missing deckhand and take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.
