Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approves 20% salary increase for civil servants, effective from January 2023

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has given his approval for the implementation of a 20% increase in the salaries of civil servants in the state. This increase will affect those in the mainstream public service, Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Areas, as well as the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The new salary structure will take effect from January 1, 2023. Additionally, the arrears for the month of January 2023 will be paid along with salaries for the month of March 2023, while the arrears for the month of February 2023 will be paid together with the salaries of April 2023.

The Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, announced the implementation of the salary increase in a circular, stating that it is a move by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to improve the welfare and wellbeing of Public Servants in Lagos State. He urged Public Servants to show more commitment and dedication in the delivery of qualitative service to the citizens of the State.

This action further demonstrates the administration’s commitment to staff welfare. All accounting officers are to take note of the contents of this circular and give it the service-wide publicity it deserves. The increase in salaries will undoubtedly help to boost the morale of civil servants, and hopefully, lead to better service delivery for the citizens of Lagos State. It is a step in the right direction and a laudable move by the Governor to prioritize the welfare of civil servants in the state.
