In what can be described as a dramatic turn of events, women in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State stripped themselves half-naked to protest the outcome of the governorship election in the state. It would be recalled that tension had continued to mount in Lafia and some parts of the state following the alleged rigging of the guber election. The women, who were escorted by security agencies, were determined to make their voices heard and their demands met.

The protests were not only aimed at drawing attention to the alleged rigging of the election, but also at highlighting the importance of fair and transparent elections in Nigeria. The women were willing to go to great lengths to ensure that their voices were heard and their rights respected.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was returned as the winner of the election after defeating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, David Umbugadu, with a margin of 64,193 votes. However, the women in Akwanga Local Government Area, like many other Nigerians, believe that the election was not free and fair, and that their votes did not count.

In conclusion, the protests by women in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State highlights the need for free, fair, and transparent elections in Nigeria. It also underscores the importance of ensuring that the voices of women and other marginalized groups are heard and their rights respected. The protesters’ demands for the cancellation of the governorship election and the need for INEC to revert the result in the interest of peace should be taken seriously by relevant authorities.
