FAAN: Lagos International Airport Runways to Close for 8 Weeks

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has recently announced that the international runways 18R and 36L at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos will be shut down for repairs. According to a statement released by FAAN on Monday, the runway will be closed for eight weeks for maintenance.

The decision to close down the runways was made in order to ensure the safety and security of all passengers using the airport. FAAN stated that the maintenance work was necessary to ensure that the airport continued to meet international standards and to prevent any accidents or incidents from occurring.

During the maintenance period, Taxiway B-18L will be used instead for all flight operations until the work is completed. This means that there may be some disruption to flight schedules, and passengers are advised to check with their airlines for any changes or delays.

FAAN has also assured the public that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that the maintenance work is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible. The agency has stated that it is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers, and that it will continue to work closely with airlines and other stakeholders to minimize any inconvenience caused by the closure of the runways.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the international runway at the Murtala Muhammed Airport has been closed down for maintenance. Earlier this year, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency shut down the same runway for a few hours to carry out maintenance work.

In conclusion, the closure of the international runways at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos for maintenance is a necessary step to ensure the safety and security of all passengers using the airport. Although there may be some disruption to flight schedules during the eight-week maintenance period, FAAN has assured the public that all necessary measures have been taken to minimize any inconvenience caused.
