Turkey President reflects back on 1998 agreement with Syria that will allowed Turkey to enter Syrian territory when it faces threats.
President Tayyip Erdogan said, he expects a mutual support from Syria to set up their effort in providing a “safe zone” along the Turkish border within a few months, he also said that he and President Trump had discussed a way forward in making sure the region have a 20-mile-deep safe zone in Syria along the border, after Trump’s decision to call-off 2,000 U.S. troops.
When addressing to the news agency, he stated that they are committed in establishing it if Syria fails to cooperate. However, he urge them to cast their attention on defeating terrorist than protecting them.

The area along the border is controlled by the Kurdish YPG militia, which Turkey regards as a terrorist group but which has been a key ally of the United States in its fight against Islamic State.
