SMC South Africa Employee Loses Job for using k-word

Published

on

An employee of SMC South Africa Alochna Moodley, who admitted to using the k-word in reference to a black flight captain and passengers in an SMS, has been dismissed from work with immediate effect.

“A recent incident has been brought to the company’s attention [and] at SMC [Pneumatics], we do not tolerate any form of racism,” said Kevin O’Carroll, managing director at SMC South Africa.

This follows Moodley calling two black passengers – Reverend Solumuzi Mabuza and Sibusiso Magubane – as well as Captain Menzi Mvelase by the k-word on a flight from OR Tambo International to King Shaka Airport last Friday night.

She was called out by Mabuza, who was seated next to her and saw her typing the k-word on her phone, when she was expressing anger that someone on the flight was drunk while another person was “sniffing”.

Moodley was immediately escorted off the Kulula.com flight when the incident was brought to the airline crew’s attention.

On her part, Moodley admitted her offence to newsmen and blamed it on being frustrated.

She said: “It was a mistake on my side, I am not going to deny that I said those things.

“Yes, it’s wrong for me to make those racial remarks but it was my SMS, so why was he [Mabuza] looking at my phone?

He invaded my privacy and I feel like this thing was blown out of proportion,” she said at the time.

The High Court in Mukono District in central Uganda found her guilty of murdering her husband Eric Kiddu after hitting him several times on the head with an iron bar.

After the murder Nakku attempted to make the killing appear to be the result of an attack by unknown people by screaming and running to neighbours to ask for help. His body was later found in a pool of blood with a panga and brick besides it, the Daily Monitor reported.

The couple had quarrelled shortly before the bloody encounter with a misunderstanding leading to Kiddu’s death.

Nakku was advised by the judge to appeal the sentence if she was dissatisfied as relatives of both husband and wife argued outside the court, trading accusations.

Aporu was killed on Thursday morning by a mob after accusing him of being a serial defile, and the latest was done while her parents were in the farm.

In an interview with newsmen, the area LCIII chairperson, Mr Samuel Okurut said though Aporu had become a problem to locals for his continuous offences (defilement), but condemned the Mob’s act.

“I don’t support defilement but what happened is bad. They (mob) should have left justice to take its course by taking him to police. What the mob did was bad.”

Mr Okurut said upon return from the fields, the girl’s parents found her crying and bleeding profusely from her private parts.

“When her mother tried to ask what had happened, the girl just pointed at Aporu before she made an alarm that attracted other people. In the past, police arrested Aporu more than thrice on defilement charges but would release him under unclear circumstances,” he added.

His body was taken to Bukedea Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem before it’s given to relatives for burial.
Mr Ezra Tugume, DPC Bukedea condemned the act, accusing the community of taking the law into their hands.

“We have launched a manhunt of all those who participated in the mob justice. They will be taken to court to answer murder charges,” he added.
