Koforidua Anglican Church to Build Maternity Hospital

The Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church has recently made a significant announcement that they have raised funds to build a maternity hospital that will cater to the needs of both their congregants and the public. This new hospital will be housed in a one-storey building located near Jackson Park in Koforidua, which is situated in the New Juaben South municipality of the Eastern Region.

The announcement was made by the Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, Rt Rev. Felix Annancy, during an event marking his fifth year of consecration as the bishop of the diocese in Koforidua. This event was attended by a number of clergymen and dignitaries, including a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen; the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong; and the Piehene of Asante Akyem Agogo, Barima Boasiako Brogya Sarpong.

During the event, Mr. Kyerematen donated GH¢50,000 and 500 bags of cement to support the construction of the new hospital, while the Nkosuohene of Nkwatia, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, also gave GH¢134,000. Other individuals also made donations towards this worthy cause.

According to Rt Rev. Annancy, the decision to build the hospital was based on the belief that God’s work is holistic and includes providing services to mankind. He explained that the hospital will be located in the center of town to ensure that women seeking medical services will not have to travel long distances to access healthcare.

He also emphasized that fulfilling God’s mission involves not only spreading the Gospel but also taking care of the physical needs of people. Rt Rev. Annancy highlighted that Koforidua was expanding, and the diocese had agreed to complement the existing health facilities, both government-owned and private, which will go a long way to supplement the government’s efforts at providing healthcare to the people, especially women.

During the event, Mr. Kyerematen appealed to the diocesan bishop to take a particular interest in promoting the financial stability of the diocese. He suggested that mobilizing funds to run dioceses had been the main challenge facing bishops, and the diocese should engage in income-generating activities to enable it to obtain the needed resources to undertake development programs.

Finally, Mr. Kyerematen acknowledged the current economic situation in the country, noting that Ghanaians are passing through a difficult period. He encouraged everyone to pray for God to take them through and overcome the difficulties. He also congratulated Rt Rev. Annancy on his outstanding performance as the bishop of the Koforidua Diocese.

Overall, the Koforidua Diocese’s decision to build a hospital to cater to the maternity needs of both their congregants and the public is a commendable one. This new hospital will undoubtedly go a long way in helping to provide accessible healthcare services to the people of Koforidua, especially women, and will complement the existing health facilities in the area. The donations made by individuals, including Mr. Kyerematen, demonstrate the importance of community involvement and support in achieving such important projects.
