Muslim Women Pray for Peaceful Election, Endorse Sanwo-Olu as Lagos Governor

The Coalition of Muslim Women for Asiwaju (CoMWA) recently made a public pledge to support the re-election of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in Lagos State. The group believes that Governor Sanwo-Olu has done an excellent job in the last four years, bringing about massive development in the state through strategic policies that have positively impacted the lives of many Nigerians.

During a special prayer session for the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Governor Sanwo-Olu’s re-election, the National Coordinator of CoMWA, Rasheedat Adabari, spoke about the massive infrastructure projects that have been implemented under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration. She highlighted the Blue Line, which had been abandoned for years but is now operational, the nearing completion of the Red Line, as well as the many ongoing road projects across the state.

Adabari also mentioned the recently contracted 4th Mainland Bridge and the Opebi-Iya Alaro link bridge, which are nearing completion. She emphasized that these two bridges would greatly decongest the roads and shorten journey time, which is especially important in a state where a significant amount of man-hour is lost in traffic. Furthermore, she commended the massive infrastructure witnessed in the health sector, with the conversion of some primary health centers to General Hospitals, which is giving hope and the belief that re-election will come along with more blessings and dividends of democracy.

CoMWA commended women who came out to vote massively for Tinubu during the presidential election, and urged them to also come out and vote for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s re-election on March 11th. According to Adebari, Lagos cannot afford to be in opposition when the father of modern Lagos, Tinubu, is the president. Conceding Lagos to another party would be a disservice to Asiwaju and a huge trajectory setback. Therefore, CoMWA is urging all Muslim women in Lagos State to come out in large numbers, with their identity, as an obvious expression of gratitude to the Governor who has approved the use of hijab in all schools in Lagos after the Supreme Court judgment.

Dr. Nurudeen Olaleye, the Grand Patron of COMWA, also spoke about the need for people to come out and vote, stating that Lagos is one of the most secure states in the country, and that the trend needs to continue beyond the election. Olaleye assured Governor Sanwo-Olu that there would be massive votes in his favor, and that CoMWA would be using their network to reach out to people across the state. The group would be working from mosque to mosque, to get the message to the people.

One member of the Muslim women, Rofiat Akinyemi, a lawyer, urged Lagosians to come out on March 11th to vote for Sanwo-Olu. She assured the Governor and his deputy, Hamzat, of CoMWA’s support and mobilization for the poll, and promised to ensure that more people understand the benefits that await them for voting Sanwo-Olu, encouraging them to come out and cast their votes.

First Vice Chairperson of COMWA, Sherifat Yusuf-Ajibade, emphasized that the group’s support is not based on religion but on the equity that the government has brought to Lagosians. She reiterated that the group is mobilizing house to house and mosque to mosque to convince people to cast their votes for Sanwo-Olu.

In conclusion, CoMWA’s support for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s re-election is not only because of his achievements but also because of his policies, which have positively impacted the lives of Lagosian. The group believes that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s
