South African Jazz Singer Gloria Bosman Dies at 50

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of South African jazz singer, Gloria Bosman, at the age of 50. A close family friend confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon, leaving the music industry and her fans devastated by the loss of such a talented and celebrated artist.

Bosman was born and raised in the heart of Johannesburg, growing up in the vibrant township of Soweto. Her love for music began at a young age, and she would go on to become one of South Africa’s most celebrated jazz singers, leaving an indelible mark on the country’s music scene.

Over the course of her career, Bosman won two South African Music Awards and received more than 11 nominations. She was also nominated for two Kora Awards, cementing her status as one of Africa’s most talented and beloved musicians.

Bosman shared the stage with numerous musical greats, including Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse. Her performances were always electrifying, and she was known for her powerful voice, captivating stage presence, and ability to connect with her audience on a deep emotional level.

Her album Stop and Think, released in the 2000s, received nominations for Best Female Artist and Best Jazz Vocal Album at the 2003 Samas. Her 2004 solo album received six Sama nominations and the title of Best Female Composer.
