Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says losing senatorial bid does not mean defeat

Despite losing his senatorial bid in the February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State remains undeterred in his advocacy for equity, justice, and fairness. In a statement made during the commissioning of Government Secondary School in Kpor, Gokana Local Government Area, Governor Ortom declared that he is not defeated and he stands tall. According to his Chief Press Secretary, Nathaniel Ikyur, the governor remains proud of associating with Governor Nyesom Wike and others who have chosen to stand by the truth and ensure equity, fairness, and justice for the country.

Samuel Ortom, a member of the G5, a group of five aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, refused to campaign for their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and backed the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Some other members of the G5 supported Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won the election.

However, despite the loss, Governor Ortom is undaunted in his pursuit of equity, fairness, and justice for Nigeria. He noted that Nigeria has everything it needs but what is lacking is equity, fairness, and justice. He also emphasized the importance of education in development, lauding Governor Wike for executing the school project and stating that educated children will be better leaders than illiterates.

Governor Ortom also commended the people of Rivers State for standing with Wike and supporting him in all his aspirations. He described Wike as a great Nigerian, a patriot, and a man that believes in equity, fairness, and justice. Ortom expressed pride in associating himself with Wike and acknowledged that despite being older than Wike, he has learned a lot from him. In conclusion, Governor Ortom reaffirmed his commitment to advocacy for equity, justice, and fairness, insisting that he remains undeterred despite losing the election.
