The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Election Result Viewer (IReV) is a web-based platform designed to provide Nigerians with real-time access to election results from various polling units across the country. The platform allows citizens to monitor the voting process and verify the results of elections in a transparent and accountable manner.
In February 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the amended Electoral Act into law, allowing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to implement new measures to enhance the transparency and integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
To ensure that the will of the people is accurately reflected, INEC resolved to use the IReV portal for the #NigeriaDecides2023 election, enabling the real-time upload of polling unit results. By logging into the portal, users can access results from previous elections such as the Ekiti, Osun, and FCT Area council election. Users can select their preferred election, state, LGA, ward, and polling unit to view the uploaded results.
It is essential to create an account on the portal before the election day to avoid difficulties during the process. INEC has assured that the platform has the capacity to manage about 100 million hits on the election day. The introduction of these measures aims to promote transparency and accountability, ensuring a free and fair electoral process in Nigeria.

Step 7: Once you have selected the polling unit, the platform will display the election results for that unit. The results will include the number of registered voters, the number of accredited voters, and the number of votes cast for each candidate.
Step 8: You can also download the results as a PDF file or print them out for future reference.
The INEC Election Result Viewer (IReV) is an important tool for promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
The web-based IReV portal displays election results that were transmitted from the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS), both of which were introduced in 2021. The BVAS serves a dual purpose as an accreditation and photography device, verifying the validity of a voter’s PVC and ensuring that the election results are accurate without any incidents of over-voting.
During the election process, the results from each polling center are handwritten on a form that is signed by the presiding officer. The BVAS then captures a picture of the form, which is uploaded to the IReV portal and saved as a viewable PDF file. This process ensures that the election results are accessible via the internet from anywhere in the world, promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
