Boy, 9, finds young mum dead in bed while getting ready for school two weeks before Christmas.

A brave nine-year-old boy is facing the prospect of Christmas without his mum after he found her dead in bed while he was getting ready for school.

Wyatt Pitt suffered the heartbreak of finding out his mum and “best friend” Carly – aged just 28 – had suddenly died in her sleep during the early hours of Monday morning.

Wyatt, from Liscard in Wirral – who does not have any brothers of sisters – was on his own at the time so had to call the emergency services himself so they could contact his family.

Carly’s brother Richie report how he was on his way to a hospital as part of his job as a children’s entertainer when he received the devastating call.

He said: “Wyatt called 999 and told them and then he asked the police to go to my sister’s house, because he wanted his uncle Paul and that’s how I found out.

“I’m a children’s performer and actor and I was on my way to a job when I got the call.

“Carly and Wyatt were staying at her boyfriend Mark’s house, and he leaves for work at 5.30am. She was still alive then but when Wyatt tried to wake her up at about 9am she had passed.

“It’s still quite fresh, but Wyatt was really brave and did the right thing. He’s only nine and he was obviously very upset but he knew what to do.”

Richie described how Wyatt and Carly had a special relationship.

He added: “Carly was just utterly devoted to Wyatt. They weren’t like a mum and a son they were like best friends, they were a team.

“His nan passed away a few years ago and my heart breaks thinking that the two women that Wyatt loved the most and was just devoted to have died.”

While most families at this time of the year are preparing for Christmas, Carly’s family now face having to plan a funeral and how to help Wyatt get through the festive season.

He said: “It’s all a little bit raw at the moment, he’s got his family around him and he’s staying at Carly’s sisters at the moment who has a son of a similar age.

“It’s really hard to know what to do for the best. We’ll be guided by Wyatt, but for now he has the right people around him.”

A friend of the family, Saul Murphy, has set up a JustGiving page in order to raise funds to be placed into a savings fund for Wyatt when he turns 18 – “to show him the love his mum showed everyone she knew”.

Richie added: “When someone dies you often say ‘is there anything I can do?’ and people never know how to help, but we’ve been so touched by how people have wanted to contribute and help.

“My friend Saul asked about setting up a fund to help Wyatt with some money for when he is older – whether it’s for uni, or for buying a car, or for travelling – something for milestones, whatever they may be.

“He set it up and we can’t believe how generous people have been. I think it’s a way for people to feel like they’re helping and we’ve been overwhelmed by the support it’s had.”

Saul Murphy wrote on the page: “Wyatt went to wake up his mummy Carly before he started to get ready for school, what he didn’t expect was to find she had passed away.

“Bravely and calmly he called 999 for assistance and gave them details of a family member they could contact. Wyatt is only nine years old.

“Carly was a devoted Mother and best friend to her only child, Wyatt. He is a brave young boy who we all know will miss his mummy dearly and find it extremely hard to fill this void in his life. “Luckily he has a great supporting family who will always be here for him and help build a bright future. Unfortunately, like many young mothers, Carly had no savings to leave as inheritance.

She was only 28 years young and never once thought she would be taken away from us so soon.
