LGBTQ: Renowned Radio Host Lynda Nyangweso Comes Out as Bi Despite Being Married, Calls for LGBTQ+ Rights

Renowned radio host Lynda Nyangweso has recently come out as bisexual, opening up about her attraction to both men and women while also advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ community in Kenya. This message from the radio personality comes in the wake of Uganda’s recent passage of a bill that seeks to criminalize homosexuality in the country, a move that has received widespread criticism both nationally and internationally.

The Ugandan bill contains a provision that reads: “A person commits the offense of homosexuality if the person holds out as a les, gay, transgender, queer, or any other sexual or gender identity that is contrary to the binary categories of male and female.” This move by Uganda has only served to further marginalize and discriminate against the LGBTQ community, who already face immense challenges in accessing their basic human rights.

In Kenya, there has also been controversy surrounding LGBTQ rights, with both political and religious leaders expressing their disapproval of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that an LGBTQ human rights commission can be registered as an NGO in the country. However, despite the challenges, Nyangweso has taken a bold step in speaking out for the rights of the LGBTQ community in Kenya.

In an Instagram post, Nyangweso shared a photo of herself sitting in what appeared to be a crowded chair and accompanied it with a powerful caption: “As a bi woman, I’ve never really had to ‘come out’ because I’m married to a man but this isn’t the time to mince words. LGBTQIA rights are human rights. I’ll say that again. LGBTQIA rights are human rights. No ifs and or buts.” With this statement, Nyangweso has shown her unwavering support for the LGBTQ community and has made it clear that she will not stand for any form of discrimination or marginalization against them.

Additionally, Nyangweso has also called on Kenyans to be cautious and not follow in the footsteps of Uganda by enacting bills or laws that do not protect the rights of the LGBTQ community.
