Labour Party Rhodes-Vivour Vows Legal Action Over Alleged 'Vote Suppression' in Lagos Election

The ongoing Lagos State gubernatorial poll has been filled with drama, as the Labour Party candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has made a bold statement, vowing to seek redress in court if the outcome of the election does not favor him.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit 045, Oshifila/Abule Igbira in Anifowose, Ikeja, Rhodes-Vivour alleged that there have been incidences of vote suppression by thugs supporting his opponent. He further insisted that the will of the Lagos residents must prevail in the election.

Rhodes-Vivour’s allegations of voter suppression come as no surprise, as the election has been marred by reports of political thuggery and intimidation in various parts of the state. There have been reports of polling unit materials not arriving in some areas where the Labour Party candidate is strong, such as Alimosho and Iba.

Despite these challenges, Rhodes-Vivour remains optimistic that the will of the people will prevail in the election. He stated, “The will of the people will prevail. There has been a lot of targeted voter suppression.”

Rhodes-Vivour’s resolve to seek legal redress if the outcome of the election does not favor him is a testament to his commitment to democracy and the rule of law. He has made it clear that he will not congratulate his opponent if his mandate is based on voter suppression and intimidation.

The incumbent Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is competing against Rhodes-Vivour and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor. Despite reports of threats from political thugs, the election is enjoying a massive turnout across the state, indicating the determination of the people of Lagos to exercise their democratic rights.

In conclusion, the ongoing Lagos State gubernatorial poll has been filled with drama, but the will of the people must prevail. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s determination to seek legal redress if the election does not favor him is a testament to his commitment to democracy and the rule of law. Regardless of the outcome, the people of Lagos have spoken, and their voice must be heard.
