Sanwo-Olu Donates N100m To victims Of Akere Market Fire

In a show of support and solidarity with traders who suffered losses during a recent fire incident at the Akere Motor Parts and Allied Dealers Association (AMPADA) market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State donated N100 million towards their recovery efforts. The governor made the announcement while leading a delegation to the site to assess the damage and meet with the affected traders.

The gesture by the governor was part of efforts to alleviate the plight of the victims who lost goods, properties, and cash worth millions of naira in the fire. Speaking during his visit to the site, Sanwo-Olu expressed his sympathy for the traders and pledged his support towards helping them recover from their losses.

The governor promised to assist in the burial of the deceased and stated that the donation was not a political move, but rather a humanitarian effort aimed at helping the traders. He also laid the foundation for a new market building to replace the old one that was destroyed in the fire.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that his government is people-centered and working to make things better for everyone, regardless of their political affiliations, ethnic or religious backgrounds. He assured the traders that as long as they abide by the laws guiding their activities and respect the heritage of the places where they do business, they will always be accommodated.

Meanwhile, a support group, No Alternative to Tinubu, NATT 2023, has cautioned against politicizing the incident. The group’s National Coordinator, Mr. Vincent Uba, emphasized that it is illogical to blame the state government for the fire. Uba noted that the governor had provided a conducive environment, incentives, and level-playing ground for all types of traders to thrive, irrespective of tribe or religion.

Uba stressed that burning down a market would not benefit anyone, including the governor or his supporters. He urged political parties, groups, or individuals not to impute politics in the fire incident, but to support Sanwo-Olu’s efforts to continue the development chain of modern Lagos founded by Bola Tinubu.
